August 12
View from the house we rented! |
While in Oregon I am training with a bike I rented. The hills right around the house we rented are significant. The journey up one and down one hill is 5.2 miles and about 700 feet of climbing which is 140 feet per mile -- perfect for what I will need to accomplish on this cross country trip. Friday August 10, I repeated this hill 5 times -- 25 miles and 3500 feet and put in an additional 50 miles with an additional 3700 feet. I did set out to simulate one of the first days on the trip which is 112 miles and 8300 feet -- almost made it! I will attempt to simulate it again Monday August 13.. The roads here are very narrow, windy, with no shoulders and there are are lot of trucks and traffic. I don't mind it -- its what I will face x-country. I took a rest day after Friday and then did only 36 miles on Sunday.
