WHAT A GREAT DAY -- Today reminded me of why I do this trip - energy level peaked and a really awesome feeling of accomplishment. The ride was mostly downhill with only a few long significant climbs and a tail wind and cross wind for the last 40 miles. When I average over 14-15 mph on a 90 mile ride with 4200 feet of climbing you know there has to be help from the wind God. In fact I even hit 40mph going on a descent -- not fast for most but fast enough for me!
Started the ride at 6:45. It was great to see the sun above the terrain and birds flying off the fields and fences rows as we sped by. The guides split us into three groups. Each group leaving about 15 minutes apart. I was in the first group the slow group first (needs more time) the fastest last (they need less time). Turns out that at the first stop for water and snacks we were almost all there as a group. After that the top, and middle group had passed me.
As mentioned above the scenery for the first 35 miles or so was spectacular. After that it was back to mile after mile after mile after mile of harvested wheat fields and then about 10 miles from town corn fields filled the scenery.

Do they use these today to generate power for cell phones?
Also picture 40 miles of this -- and there are not a lot of windmills
along the way |

break time fun with Tara -- Remember its 90 degrees and keep in mind the repetitive movements and the scenery we all needed a switch -- |
