View after a 3 mile climb! These are the same haystacks that are
in front of the house we rented I'm just miles away here!

Monday I designed a 100 mile ride with about 8000 feet of climbing. The ride I completed was 85 miles and only 6600 feet of climbing but the climbing involved 19 miles and about 4000 feet of climbing which is 200 feet per mile, give or take.  Quite a challenge so even if I didn't make the 100 I feel I am getting ready for the days ahead.  There was also a 10 mile downhill part of the ride -- didn't plan on that but it was a pleasant and relaxing surprise.

Signs along Route 101  This is a 2 lane
major highway with little or no shoulder
and tons of fast moving traffic

After getting back and taking a shower I noticed what looked like shingle blotches on my arm so I went to the Urgent Care and yes that exactly what it is. They say shingles come from stress so I guess I am more stressed about the trip than I really thought -- but then I need to not project and take one day at a time.  By the way I also got shingles before the other xcountry trip. Doctor gave me 3 different pills to take and said I should be alright by Sunday.
