Compared to the last 3 days, each over 100 miles and a lot of climbing, this ride should have been a walk in the park. Because of the initial climb I took the van for the first 13 miles. Once again it was 41 degrees but 90 by the end the day! The sun was shining and there was mist in the air when we started. The first 10 miles were beautiful the rest of the ride was grass lands, irrigated alfalfa and cows. Lunch was at mile 43 and by then everyone had passed me but I did get to eat lunch with everyone --- see what 13 miles in the van will do! There was native American fur store right before lunch, I bought a rabbit skin with buffaloes painted on it and am tempted to buy a buffalo hide - its really cool but do I really need it --they ship and I have the guys card.

At lunch the guides indicated that it was 27 miles to the Wyoming border and that they would have a snacks and water available half way to the Wyoming sign. There was a 20 mile climb out of the 27. It was only a 2-3% grade BUT there was a 15-20 mile and hour head wind. When I got to the snacks and water I hopped in the van and went the 13 miles to the sign.. It was 20 miles to the hotel from there. Even though it was down hill at a -2%-3% grade the wind was still head on. About 4 miles from the hotel and completely exhausted the road turned to grooved payment and then got worse! The road changed to gravel with cones in the middle. Just as I was approaching the gravel part, Michael with the van was next to me, I signaled and rode the rest of the 4 miles with him.

Over all I did 61.4 miles and only 1433 feet of climbing -- but this was probably the most challenging day so far.
