Another sunny day that ended up in the mid 80's. I had planned to catch the van at mile 12 for a 5 mile lift to avoid some serious but doable climbs. Unfortunately I got lost (yes even with the Garmin) and I ended up doing the climbs plus some extra. The problem was that the Garmin told me I was off course so I "corrected" the direction (the wrong way) but the Garmin never indicated I was still off course. After about 3-4 miles I realized I must be wrong. Got out the phone and printed cue sheet and thought I figured out how to get back on course. In the mean time I tried to call Tara in one Van and Blake in the other and of course there was no cell service. To make a long story short I met a woman jogging (in the middle of no where) and ask her for help. She directed me to Route 14 and gave me directions on how to reconnect with the route. By the time I got to Route 14 Tara called and told me how to get to the route by just following Route 14. By the time I got to the van all the others had arrived almost at the same time. Back on my way! Even though it was only 54 miles the hills were tough. There were many short but steep (for me) climbs between finding the route and Madison. Oh well I'm pleased I did the whole route but by quads are screaming. Hey its all in a days work. When I arrived about 2 pm the rooms were not ready. Changed into street clothes, got lunch and then almost fell asleep in the lobby. My room was not in the hotel it is the Mansion Inn (unbelievably plush) but it was a third of a mile away uphill. Trek did bring the bags from the other hotel here and I finally got in the room and immediately fell asleep. Remember however Everyday is a Good Day!
