Used Lyft to get to the laundry. I was there at about 7:30 am and with no one else there it was not a bad experience. Then of course I used Lyft to get back to the hotel by 9:00 am. At 9:15 Trek Travel van picked us up and drove about a half hour to Trek Factory in Waterloo WI. I found the tour fascinating. They have so many different facets in the buildings. Training room for dealers and repair people. paint rooms, assembly rooms development rooms, a custom room where you can get a bike custom fit to you and your strengths and weaknesses. It takes about 3 hours to create the perfect bike and it is only $25,000. No I'm not going to do that!
Trek has only been in existence since 1976. It was founded by a bike shop owner and a bicycle enthusiast who happen to be sitting next to each other on a plane. One lived in Milwaukee the other Madison. They decided to meet and talk half way between them which is Waterloo. Now Waterloo has only 3400 people. Trek employs 900 people (not all from waterloo) but think of the reputation of Trek and the fact it is located in such a rural area. The first Trek bikes were made in a barn near by and its all history since. I was also impressed with how they have a fitness center for employees, a cafeteria with healthy options and a wellness center. They even have special parking for pregnant woman so they don't have to work as far. Quality company from my perspective.
Here we are in Madison WI in only 30 days. Pretty significant.

ReplyDeleteHey where was the LLTeach fitness and wellness center and cafeteria?? :)
ReplyDeleteI agree, Steve. Hey NOW I know why I'm overweight. I knew it had something to do with LLT. Man, Paul, I'd love to tour Trek's factory. I love that kind of stuff. You'll have to fill me in with all the details when you get back. Dinner at Chimney Rock??
