The day started with rain and it rained moderately to heavy consistently until lunch. It then turned to drizzle until about 10 miles out of Milwaukee. The terrain was great for biking in that the hills were moderate grades mostly in the 2-3% range. Parts of the route were on bike paths. We took a bike path out of the city, one after lunch for about 20 miles and then one into the city for about 5 miles.
Today's ride was different in that 5 folks from the Trek Travel office joined us for the ride until lunch. They were then picked up and driven back for a fun afternoon of work. I started early but there were a lot of turns getting to the bike path and by the time I was only beginning the path the rest of the crew caught up with me. This made me out of sync with the snack and water van at 20 miles. So at 20 miles I got in the van for about 10 miles and then rejoined the ride from there till the end.
What I notice about the bigger towns in the West is that they do have bike paths and most are bicycle friendly. What I have also noticed for the past 4-5 days is the abundance of mosquitoes. The minute you stop you are swarmed with them. Almost impossible to describe. One of the guides was changing a flat and had so many bites he got in the van with me and rode the 10 miles like I did. When I was riding in the woods on one path they were hitting my face, glasses and legs as I sped through swarms of them.
Milwaukee of course is the home of Harley Davidson and of Schlitz beer "Schlitz, the beer that made Milwaukee famous" If you remember that one your in my generation. Remember it sponsored the Amos and Andy show on Friday nights.
These Garmins are driving me crazy. I had to switch because it wouldn't charge so the only map is
the one below for 60 miles but add on the 20 I mentioned above and its a total of 80 miles today. Don't konw the total ascent though. I have a new garmin so things should straighten out.

This is the only picture I took today. The conditions and scenery just weren't worth the effort of getting out the phone getting off the bike with the bugs Sorry you'll have to wait till tomorrow! |
