Breakfast at 6:15 at Club 27 was as bad as the dinner there last night.  Got on the road about 6:40 and stayed on the same road for 100 miles directly east. I saw only about 50 cars throughout the entire day -- you could say traffic was light!  Seeing the sun filtering through the clouds in the early AM sets a great positive tone for the day.  The route had some curves but very few.  Once again the terrain was hilly but these hills were not a steep as yesterday.  Today the wind was only 10-15 mph from SSE so it was more of a cross wind than a headwind.  I completed 85 miles. The temperature in the afternoon was 92.  I really enjoyed the ride. Most people would think looking at grasslands for 100 miles would grow old but I enjoyed observing the crops, houses and bars.  They seem to grow corn, sunflowers and sorghum for their main crop.

Day 9 Kooskia ID to Lolo Mt 92 miles 3900 ft

The temperature was 59 degrees with a heavy rain that continued until 1 pm which was then followed by intermittent showers – we even had sun for about 5 minutes.   The entire length of the ride was 91 miles- most of it along the clearwater river. It was spectacular because we were right along side it so we could see the rapids etc – would have been perfect if the sun was shining and the temperature was in the low 70’s.   The first   80 miles were continuous 1%-2% grades but then at mile 80 the steepness increased until the top of the pass at 84 miles.   Another 6 miles downhill (midway down the mountain) to the hotel.   My intention was to bike to mile 80 and then take the van to the top and ride down to the hotel.   I was completely exhausted today for some reason – guess it was the 22 mile climb yesterday. DAY 43Piseco NY to Ticonderoga NY 84 miles 3968 fee tclimbing

Please send comments to this blog or   bikerat70@gmail.com or 908-268-4250 Overcast and 39 degrees when I left at around 7 AM.  The leaves are really starting to have more color and because of the cold there was a lot of mist/fog off the lakes and rivers early in AM.  I used my winter gloves for the first time and shoe covers to keep my feet warm.  I kept them on all day except for the gloves. I had arranged for a van ride at mile 32 for a 4 mile climb. Unfortunately there was miscommunication and I pedaled all the way up. The descent of course was great.  Lunch was at a combination bike shop and cafe. By the way many of the roads and even this lunch spot were part of the Cycle Adirondacks bike trip I took last year.  After lunch I did get the van up the next ascent which was much steeper.
